2017-18 RCA Tutors – Homeschool Classes

Jerry Emge

Jerry EmgeMy wife and I live in Lake Elsinore, and have two grown daughters and six grandchildren.  I am excited to be tutoring students at Revival Christian Academy in physical science.  My career has taken me from Milwaukee, WI, to Seattle, WA, to Southern California where we have lived since 1980.  I graduated with distinction from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  I have also had extensive electronics training in the U.S. Army.  While at Purdue, I was a General Motors scholar and was initiated into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Fraternity.  I passed the California CBEST test in 2016.

I still own and operate my own business in the electric motor and motor control business.  As a result of my several years in the military, and throughout over forty years in business, I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Far East.  In addition to being an avid reader, I am computer fluent.  I continue to be a daily student of the Bible, and I teach a Bible study in my home and have done so for many years.  I enjoy tutoring high school and college students in science and math.  Seeing students learn and having them enjoy learning are always primary goals of mine.  I look forward to spending time with each group of students.  Most importantly, I look forward to seeing how the Lord guides us as we seek knowledge both as teacher and student.

Douglas Gibbs

Douglas GibbsI am a life-long Christian, a father, a grandfather, and a proud U.S. Navy Veteran.  I have been studying constitutional principles since childhood, and was an English major in college.  My current specialties regard the United States Constitution, American Government, U.S. History, and Economics.  I am a radio host, author, public speaker, Director of Civics and Constitution Studies for the Congress of Racial Equality, President of the Constitution Association, a Fellow of the American Freedom Alliance, a Sentinel for the Heritage Foundation, and District Director for the 28th District of the CRA.  I have appeared a number of times on various television (both national and local) and radio outlets, and I am a free lance newspaper columnist in both print and online.  I am a member of Unite Inland Empire patriot group coalition, the American Authors Association, the Military Writers Society of America, and Secretary for the Executive Board for Birth Choice Temecula pro-life pregnancy center.  I received the Golden Anchor Award for my patriotic commentary in 2008, and received a California State Senate Certificate of Recognition in 2014 for “Outstanding Patriotic Service.”

Ron Harry

Ron Harry

I am a graduate of Long Beach State University with a major in mathematics.  I retired from a career in logistics at a billion-dollar fortune 500 company, where I was responsible for the coordination of production, inventory control, and shipping in support of over 120 distributors.  Since retiring, I passed the California CBEST and CSET mathematics exams, and currently own a mathematics tutorial company: “The MathDoc.”  I have spent the last thirteen years teaching math to all levels, from grade school through college.  I have assisted “Professional Tutors of America” and the local “Club Z” tutorial organizations, and I work as a substitute teacher.

My passion and gift for teaching mathematics is evidenced with a success rate well over 90%.  I place special emphasis on the language of math and the role of strong “mental math” skills, understanding the truth of the saying, “Mathematics is the language of science.”  Math skills are required for most jobs in the workforce, but the even more important benefit to studying math are the lifelong skills it develops, such as patience, determination, creative thinking, persistence, attention to detail and much more.  No matter the field a student may choose to work, solving problems is what they will be paid to do.

Sharon Heimann

Sharon HeimannI have been teaching since 1987, including homeschooling my four children through high school.  Once my youngest graduated high school, I began teaching enrichment classes for River Springs Charter School (originally Eagles Peak).  I taught combined classes of 28 students, grades 4-8  for nine years, retiring when the program was closed.  I am excited to again be in the classroom, and especially to be teaching a requested favorite (geography), along with Apologia’s excellent Swimming Creatures life science course.  My heart and goal are to help students learn to love learning, and integral to this is the truth that there is no area or arena that does not communicate God’s presence and purpose.

Diana Marauri

Diana MarauriI am a fellow homeschooler, having taught my four children for over fifteen years.  Spanish is my first language as my parents are immigrants from Mexico.  I enjoy sharing my heritage with others.  I have been teaching the wonderful language of Spanish to the homeschool community for over ten years and have a very solid program to share with Revival Christian Academy.

Adina McCargo

Adina McCargoMy husband and I have four kids:  three boys ages seventeen, fourteen, and thirteen, and a daughter age twelve. Our family has been attending Revival Christian Fellowship since January of 2012. My husband and I count it a blessing and a privilege to serve the Lord alongside our Revival family.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2000 and my Master of Public Administration, Public Sector Management and Leadership in 2014.  After working in the accounting field for two years, the last fifteen years of my career has been spent as a financial consultant working for local government agencies throughout the state of California.  I have been blessed with opportunities in my career that include management, public speaking, training and continuing education.

I believe the Lord has blessed me with experience, both in my education and career, so that I would be able to bless others through ministry and teaching.  My desire is to help prepare students for the next phases of their lives while glorifying God in everything they do. The Lord places us in different environments in life, including college and throughout our careers – not to obtain material wealth, but to be a light to Him.  By equipping students to be successful in these areas, we are also giving them the opportunity to have the greatest possible platform to spread the love and Word of God.

Colossians 3:23a (NIV)  “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”

Jana Nickerson

Jana NickersonMy husband and I will celebrate our twelfth wedding anniversary this summer.  I have a bachelor’s degree in science from Concordia University, Irvine, as well as a multiple subject teaching credential and a Master of Education from Azusa Pacific University, Murrieta.  I taught for three years in the public school system before leaving to focus on our family and continuing education in 2014, and we have been blessed with the opportunity to homeschool our children since then.

As a parent, I know that all our children are different.  As a homeschool tutor I will work toward addressing each student and family’s individual needs.  I am excited to be the Beginnings tutor this year, and I am looking forward to working with you!

Steven Steward

Steven StewardI am a husband, father, and guitar nerd. My wife of fifteen years and I homeschool our two children through RCA, and we love it.  Giving our children a Christ-focused education has been the best thing for our children and for our family as a whole.

I met the Lord in February of 1990, and later that year I started my musical journey.  My paths as a Christian and as a musician have been intertwined ever since.  I started writing music with my friends right away, and playing with my local church worship team shortly after.

I was signed to a major label at fourteen, played on worship teams all over the Inland Empire, and have toured all over the country since I was sixteen.  I work as a professional in the music industry, helping music teachers, professional musicians, and new students with everything they need on their own musical journey.  I have been teaching music for fourteen years.  I really love teaching and sharing music with people of all ages, but I especially love working with kids. Being part of their growth as musicians has been one of the most rewarding things in my life.  Many of my past students are now professional musicians, and some are even teaching music now.

Also, I’m hilarious.

Pastor John Stewart

Pastor John StewartI met the Lord in 1986 at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.  After years of professional and financial success and what seemed to be the attaining of the “American Dream,” my life had actually become a nightmare of misery and self indulgence, devoid of any real sense of purpose.

After seeking answers through psycho-therapy, self help, and various religious philosophies the Lord found me, saved me, and changed me.  My salvation was radical in every way as I experienced forgiveness, new life, meaning and purpose in life, and a hope beyond anything I knew could exist.  That living hope still burns bright within my heart today after over 27 years of walking with the Lord and over twenty years of pastoral ministry.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.  I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain” (Galatians 2:20-21 NKJV).

The CHRIST in Christian

Kelly Suarez

Kelly SuarezI am a wife to my wonderful husband, Heron, and a mother of three amazing kids – Nathanael (9), Savannah (7), and Sofia (3).  Prior to becoming a mommy, I obtained my California State Board license in Aesthetics in 2000 and worked in the Medical aesthetic field for nearly ten years.  My husband and I excitedly welcomed our first child in 2007, and the Lord began to press on our hearts that we would homeschool our children when the time came.  After our second child was born in 2010, the Lord answered a longtime prayer of mine and graciously allowed me to quit my job and become a stay-at-home mommy.  Our journey of homeschooling began in 2012, when my oldest child began kindergarten.  The Lord has used the past five years of homeschooling as a time of both blessing and stretching for me.  It hasn’t always been easy, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!  I count it a joy and a privilege to be called to tutor a Foundations class. I firmly believe that God equips those whom He calls!  My prayer is that He is glorified through using me as a vessel to teach your children not only academics, but first and foremost, to love Him with all of their hearts.

Pastor Cisco Velasco

Cisco VelascoI have been walking with the Lord for nineteen years, and currently serve the families of Revival Christian Fellowship as an Associate Pastor, overseeing missions and facilities. Prior to this ministry, I was a missionary, serving the Lord for nine years in the Philippines, over three years in Indonesia, and shorter trips to Mexico, Thailand, and Malaysia.

I am also a camera geek, and if you can take a picture with it, I will nerd out on it.  I have had the privilege to shoot for Calvary Chapel Magazine.  I currently shoot weddings, class photos, and events.  My passion is stirred when ministry and photography meet and when a story of God’s work in a person’s life can be captured in a single frame.
